My re-introduction to Angels

Saturday, April 3, 2010

In 2002 a conversation with a stranger raised the question “Did I talk to angels?”

Angels! I don’t think so. I may actually have snorted in response to that question. They were connected with religion and the ‘G’ word which I hated because it was the embodiment of religion. Me and religion had been at odds for many years and I will admit to being angry at God for a multitude of reasons for years. So why on earth would I talk to Angels?

But this question did, however, ignite something inside my soul because it set me off on a journey of discovery that has been quite amazing and yes, sometimes a little frustrating.
I soon found myself in the Mind, Body, and Spirit section of the largest book store in town looking for books on Angels. One immediately presented itself to me with that little “buy me, pick me” voice that is normally reserved for delectable pairs of shoes; it was Messages from Your Angels by Doreen Virtue. As I opened the book and flicked through it I remember feeling faintly stunned; it was as though what was there on the page in front of me had been written especially for me. It was so relevant and applicable and I was astonished. I listened to the book’s voice and it became the first of many angel books to occupy my bookshelves over the years.

Why do I say re-introduction? Well, whether we choose to acknowledge them or not they are there with us throughout our lives, watching over us, waiting for the chance to help us. Just because I had my own issues with religion and the ‘G’ word and was closed off to sensing their presence, they never abandoned me; they waited patiently for me to get over myself and wake up to them.

The thing is with Angels that they are not allowed to interfere or take direct action with us unless our life is threatened so for the most part they are silent companions until we ask for their help. So we get to hurtle through our lives making all sorts of mistakes and getting into all sorts of mischief and they can’t do anything because we haven’t invited them in. It must be very frustrating for them and the image that always springs to mind is of them sitting in the back seat of the car behind a wall of sound proof toughened glass whilst that car is being driven oh so erratically by a learner driver who thinks they know how to drive and what the rules of the road are.  They can only sit in mute horror or amusement as we choose the wrong job or the wrong partner or pick a shirt in the sale that we will never wear in a million years but have to have because it’s a BARGAIN!. Again and again. Yes I have a wardrobe full of those shirts and skirts.

It doesn’t mean that we wont continue to make these mistakes once we have sought their help, after all from our mistakes come our greatest lessons, but maybe they can help us to realize what we are meant to be learning and to ease some of the pain that accompanies those lessons.

They are there for the fun stuff too and they love to share it with us and their sense of humour can at times be downright wicked if you will forgive the pun. They want to be involved and when we trust them the colour of life takes on a different hue.
